A Retrospective look at the Public Building Worlds - Week 2

Atlantis, COFMeta, Colony, Mars, and Yellow - Some of Active Worlds' most known public building worlds, but for the most part all have been totally abandoned, with several exceptions, such as Veger's various builds o­n Mars.  In the following weeks, AWNews will be exploring these worlds and giving you in-depth analysis o­n it's sights and reasons for their downfall.  At the end of the series, we will give opinions over the worlds in general and some suggestions for improvement by AWI and any wandering builders that may be reading this.

Yellow

Based off of the Yellowstone National Park in the western United States, Yellow is a nature themed world.  Created in 1995 as o­ne of the earliest public building worlds that still exist to this date, Yellow is host to a variety of creative and versatile buildings that could be considered good in many’s eyes even to this date.  Yellow was o­nce a vibrant community, no doubt liked by many people as the older users still comment well o­n what yellow was like back in the day.

This could be attributed in no small part to the world's friendly building environment.  It is not difficult to see, find land, or pick up the object set at all in Yellow, as opposed to some of the set features in other worlds we will be visiting in this series.  While in a way the object set is still limited, the world has a good many objects that are versatile and easy to use.  To the casual builder not wanting to jump into a challenging building project, and a builder ready to use the variety to their advantage, Yellow world seems to be the place to be.

From all evidence and user accounts Yellow world seemed to be o­ne large community instead of the decentralized towns and building sites that cover the surfaces of Alphaworld and AWTeen.  Citizen sweets described Yellow as 'a close knit community that built all over [the world].'  It makes you think, what if Alphaworld were such a tight knit community?
